HTSE process model: High-Temperature Steam Electrolysis Modeling Tool

High Temperature Steam Electrolysis process model
Technology No. CW-23-05

The HTSE Process Model is software designed to simulate the operation of a high-temperature steam electrolysis (HTSE) plant using solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) stacks coupled with a nuclear power plant. It calculates process energy requirements, water feed stream flow rate requirements, process cooling requirements, process conditions, product purity, flow rate, and data for determining individual equipment components' sizing, performance, and cost specifications. Developed in the AspenTech HYSYS process modeling software platform, the model is valuable for groups interested in analyzing, constructing, installing, or deploying an HTSE system for hydrogen production, particularly when coupled with a nuclear power plant as the primary source of process heat and electrical power. The modular approach used in the model is consistent with manufacturers' plans for deploying HTSE processes and has implications for equipment design and plant equipment component costs.
