CRYPT: Calculator for Radioisotope Yields, Targets, and Products
CRYPT offers neutron experimenters fast, comprehensive isotopic inventory calculations and output customization for neutron irradiation environments, streamlining data analysis for dosimetry and reactor experiments.
Understanding isotopic yields and decay products is critical in neutron irradiation experiments. CRYPT simplifies this process by providing experimenters with a fast, accurate isotopic inventory, including reaction rates, decay calculations, and gamma-ray intensities, with flexible outputs for further analysis.
Neutron irradiation experiments require precise calculations of isotopic changes over time to assess material behavior under radiation. Tools like ORIGEN exist but don’t offer the same level of flexibility in how data is output. CRYPT addresses this gap by allowing neutron experimenters to easily generate isotopic inventories, reaction rates, and decay products in a matter of seconds, while supporting multiple output formats like MicroShield, PeakEasy, and Excel.
CRYPT calculates isotopic inventories by taking an initial number of atoms (defined by element or isotope) and applying neutron reaction rates from ENDF libraries. It then uses the Bateman equations to decay the reaction products (RPs) over a user-specified time period, providing detailed breakdowns of each isotope’s proportion in the total inventory. Built-in information on reactor parameters and irradiation positions allows experimenters to simulate a wide variety of environments. The main goal is to calculate total dose rate and activity, key metrics for neutron dosimetry. The software is fast, generating full results in just 5-10 seconds depending on input complexity, and offers multiple output formats for further analysis in specialized tools.
Advantages:
• Quickly calculates full isotopic inventories, including reaction rates and gamma-ray intensities.
• Decays reaction products over time using the Bateman equations, giving accurate radioisotope proportions.
• Supports output to multiple formats like MicroShield, PeakEasy, and Excel for further analysis.
• Built-in reactor and irradiation position data for accurate simulation of various environments.
• Generates results in seconds, streamlining neutron dosimetry and material testing.
Applications:
• Neutron irradiation experiments at research reactors and facilities.
• Isotopic yield and decay product calculations for reactor dosimetry.
• Follow-on analysis using tools like MicroShield and PeakEasy.
• Research and testing involving neutron dosimetry or material behavior under neutron irradiation.
