Statistical External Contingency hazard Analysis Tool (SECAT)
Automating Earthquake Impact Analysis for Power Grids
Statistical External Contingency hazard Analysis Tool (SECAT) converts premade earthquake scenario XML files from the USGS into contingency files (.con files) for use by power grid solvers. It generates contingencies with randomly failed power transformers based on their likelihood of failure, determined by voltage class and earthquake severity through finite element modeling. By inputting power grid data and earthquake scenarios, ASCG outputs files that help detect grid vulnerabilities and plan upgrades. Ideal for planning and operational engineers in utilities, this tool aids in reinforcing transformers and improving grid resilience. The code will be released with controlled distribution to maintain quality and integrity, as there are no other solutions like it on the market.
